Triathlon Tips for Runners: Win a Free Race Entry

Image
As a long time runner and through many injuries I keep talking about becoming a true triathlete to focus on the cross training. Yes, I have done two in the past; one indoor and one in a lake and yikes the lake swim nearly killed me! It has been many years but I am ready to go for it again. Awhile ago I asked Laura from Mommy Run Fast  for her advice on going from runner to triathlete. Below is a combination of advice from us both... Swim: The lake swim is what gets the best of most of us “non swimmers”. The thought of swimming with others and near weeds, fish etc. is not the best feeling. My first open water tri the water was cold and my breathing suffered.  Take a few deep breaths and think back to your childhood when the lake was no more than a big bath tub, jump in a have fun! Per Laura: “ You should aim for two- three swims per week, of about double the race swim mileage.  Master’s swim groups can be a great place to gain tips and be given workouts with swimm...

Goals and motivation for 2013- Reasons for running

Image
As we approach 2013 and wrap up 2012 every takes a little time to look back on the past year and forward to the next. I have many goals in mind for 2013 and I know so does everyone else, many involving the 13 in 2013 challenge , Jill and I would love to hear these and why you are choosing to take on this challenge. If you are interested in sharing please email me your story. Here is Clea's reasons for running and joining 13 in 2013, thanks for sharing... I am super thankful for the opportunity to do a guest post.  I don't really have a good reason for why I run other than I just always have.  I started running in high school doing cross country and track.  Cross country is truly a beautiful sport and I think that's where I developed I love for just going out and enjoying a pretty run.  I just got in the habit very young of starting each day with a run.  It's really part of my personality now and my morning doesn't feel complete without it. ...

Guest Post: Angela's Journey

Today I am posting a story from Angela on her journey to become a runner... Hi, I’m thrilled to be part of the Sweat Pink Blog Swap! Many thanks to Jill for hosting it and to Jen for featuring my guest post! I thought I’d share my journey with you. I was underweight for most of my early childhood because I was hyperactive and anemic. I was a picky kid and didn’t eat much, and my parents were always worried because I was so thin and short. When I was about 10, I started to eat more, which made my mother so happy, she would push food into me, because for a change, I was finally at a normal weight. That only lasted a couple of years. As I hit puberty, my hyperactivity phased itself out and I slowed down. My parents had split up, we had moved to a new town, and being painfully shy, I had a hard time making new friends. Instead of running around outside, all I wanted was to sit in my room and read… hide, actually (although I did- and still do- love to read!). My we...

Circuit Training: Guest Post

Image
I want to thank Jill for her post on circuit training for runner: Check out her blog  Fitness, Health and Happiness As a runner I’m always looking for ways to train smart and improve performance. This year I’ve come to realize that training smart and improving performance means consistent cross training. As someone who would be perfectly happy to only run, what are my options? More importantly, what are my options that will benefit running? The answer to that is circuit training. What is circuit training? Circuit training is the effective combination of cardio vascular fitness and resistance training that maximizes the volume of work done in a short period of time. After looking at a variety of circuit workouts the routines typically: 1.       alternate between muscle groups allowing for adequate recovery 2.       include a rest interval of 30-90 seconds 3.       allow for 1-3...

I want to thank Danielle for her great post on why she runs. Check out other fitness posts for the blog swap. Thanks Katie for hosting. Now here is Danielle... Hi everyone! It’s Danielle from It’s A Harleyyy Life ! This month Jen and I are blog swapping! We are both SweatPink Ambassadors and when we were asked about doing a Blog Swap we both jumped to join! After a lot of brainstorming we came up with the topic: Why We Run ! So lets get to it. Some background information about me: Growing up I was always involved in sports. I hated running long distances {aka a mile back then} and I was more of a sprinter. I remember this one time I was playing travel soccer and they gave us a workout plan to follow during the summer… yah well that lasted one day. It just wasn’t and still really isn’t my thing but we’ll get there. In college like most people I gained the freshman 15 {more like 20} I didn’t really realize it though until the summer before my senior year....
