Weekend of running and biking

View from the run
Saturday: The start of my early morning stretch and the last 20+ mile run before the taper begins. Matt and I were helping pace groups for a 20 Mile training run hosted by the gym I work for. It was the perfect morning to run and a great course to be running, 20 Mile out and back following the final 10 Miles of TCM.

I agreed to pace a 9:00 mile forcing myself to take it easy on my final long run. As someone who is notorious for going out too fast I was not sure how this would go, but it was great! The run started a little messy and groups were spread all over so I ran with just a small group, allowing me to meet some great runners. I am always amazed how you can carry on a 3 hour conversation with someone you just met while running. I managed to stay pretty close averaging 8:50 miles. I headed back for an extra 2.5 miles and was happy to see I had enough left to push the hills at a 8:15 pace! Best part, I felt great, best run in a few weeks.

Sunday: We had a big group biking a 36 Mile ride. Another early morning full of activity. Matt had the job of pulling O in the Burley adding to his sore legs, who knew biking was so tough after running 22.5 miles (kidding)! We managed and had fun. Luckily the course had 4 water/snack stops that we took full advantage of, I think that was O's favorite part! The worst part, other then tired legs, was the post-long run hunger that was compounded by a second day of burning lots of calories. All I know is Monday will be interesting, better pack plenty of snacks.

Somehow I got home tired and ready to crash right along with O, but instead had this strong urge to run. Since I needed to make a quick trip to the store, this is exactly what I did. Another 4 Miles on my legs felt great, where has this energy and freshness been the past few weeks? I just hope it continues.

After this I am taking Monday (with it's 10 hour work day) easy. An easy upper body strength training workout and plenty of food. Bring on the taper!

How was your weekend?
