2 weeks to go...

Image
Week 1 of taper is done and I survived! Anyone else close to a race?  Every time I think things will settle down I am quickly proven wrong! Between O’s school and activities, my work and now being sick I need a break! Monday: O’s first night of dance this year and 1 hour walk for me (feeling sick) Tuesday: 8 mile run Wednesday: T25 Upper Thursday: 5K Race (more later) and core Friday: 16 miles (this was rough!) Saturday: 4 mile run while coaching and Beast Back Sunday: 1 hour family bike after work and Beast Chest O did a cheerleading camp this weekend and had a blast…Next week they perform at the game. This week is another busy week but I think we are settling into a routine finally. I have some big things this week (sorry to be vague) but please think of me and send some good thoughts. Less than 2 weeks until marathon 28. Let the weather stalking begin! Monday: Core and 8 mile run Tuesday: 6 mile run and Beast Arms Wednesday: Beast Shoulders ...

Another training cycle nearly complete!

It's that time again...I made to yet another taper! This past week was my highest mileage week in probably a year at 48.8 miles (this used to be a low week!). The best part was that it felt great. 22 miles done on Sunday in 3:19. I've learned to hold back on my long runs, finally! It was 50s and perfect but time to get out the gloves. Raynauds sucks! On the advice of a friend I tried an Epsom salt bath Sunday for the first time and I'm not fully convinced but soaking was relaxing. My legs do feel great today so who knows. Who recovers with Epsom Salt? What do you think? Matt and I had a belated birthday date night to see Counting Crows. Fun way to kick off taper, right? We had an early dinner and headed to the show only to find out it was cancelled just a few minutes before they opened the doors. So instead we headed home and relaxed on the couch with a glass of wine and listened to Counting Crows.

Almost there...Injury and back to running

Well I survived another week of not running, almost there but this weekend hasn’t been nice to my body! Saturday the elliptical irritated my peroneal tendon, didn’t have an issue until after or I would have quit and then Sunday While carrying laundry I managed to kick a 25 lb weight with my bare toe and pretty sure it is broken. At least it is only my little toe. It was great to get in 2 tough spin sessions and more strength work. Monday:  P90X+ Intervals and BB Chest/Core Tuesday:  BB Legs and 1 hour elliptical Wednesday:  BB Back/Core and T25 Alpha Cardio Thursday:  BB Arms Friday:   BB Shoulders/Core and Spin Saturday:  2 hours Elliptical Sunday:  BB Chest/Core and 75 min spin class This is it my final week of no running, I’m being optimistic! I can not handle any more elliptical, not just mentally but my foot doesn’t like it. Everyone send my good thoughts tomorrow around noon! I’m hoping to start marathon trai...

Weekly updates and surviving when things don't go as planned

Image
I debated even doing a weekly post this week, I lost it…my motivation has disappeared, my acceptance of not running is gone instead these are replaced by frustration and lack of motivation for another minute of indoor workout! But would I be honest if I only shared my good weeks…I did manage to do PT exercises daily so that’s a bonus. The week ended with a glass of wine and wanting to run. A fried sent me this and I think I need it! Monday:  BB Shoulders/core and T25 Speed Tuesday:  Yoga and 1 hour elliptical Wednesday:  BB Back/Bicep and T25 Alpha Cardio Thursday:  BB Back/Biceps Friday:   BB Chest/Tris and Yoga T25 Core Cardio Saturday:  2 hour Elliptical and 15 min Rowing and core Sunday:  Work BB Back/Biceps and P90X+ Kenpo (Love it!) 1 hour walk with Cooper Today is a new week and a new month so I am focused I can do this. 8 days until I see the doctor! Monday:  P90X+ Intervals and BB Chest/Core T...

Weekly Updates: Focus on Strength and Recovery

Image
Another week of no running, busy work and now cold, rainy weather. I’m almost halfway through my 4 weeks of no running. Luckily this week I was able to focus on fun with friends and family; a few dinners out, AMR Book Party and more. I even tried a new workout and went back to spin for the first time in nearly a year! Our Memorial weekend has been full of rain and clouds meaning I got lots of organizing done. Last month I decided to quit being a Beachbody coach, I love the programs and have built a great collection for myself but I hate the way Shakeology is pushed as the greatest thing ever and can fix anything. I tried it, it is okay but I have found much better options that agree with my body much better. I will continue to share my experience with the workouts and how great those are and would be happy to share my opinions and advice on the workout programs if anyone has questions. Monday:  BB Legs (this is the last time since 1 hour of legs causes too much hamstring p...

Weekly: Week 2 Injury Update

Image
Last Wednesday my week took an unwelcomed yet not fully unexpected turn when I was told no running for 4 weeks by the sports MD. So with this my plans were changed bigtime. O had her dance recital on Saturday and it was amazing to see the difference in the past year, she has a blast on stage, knows her dances and looks natural on stage. Monday:  BB Chest/Tris and Core Tuesday:  BB Legs and 6 mile run Wednesday:  BB Back/Biceps and core Thursday:  4-6 mile run and BB Shoulders kickboxing Friday:  BB Cardio in morning, Shoulders and Abs evening Saturday:  Run and yoga , 1:36 elliptical and 15:00 rowing Thank you Netflix and old Friends episodes Sunday:  8 mile run 35 min walk with Cooper and BB Chest/Tris Post walk treats! This will be week 2 of no running, it has been 6 days since I last ran and I think the toughest part is that my leg feels pretty good. I’ve done nitroglycerin since Friday and wow even at a super low dose I h...

Marathon weekly! Updates and taper

Image
What a crazy week! I am officially in taper mode so watch out! I feel like this training just started and now I’m less than 3 weeks from my 27 th marathon! I think a lot is due to finally getting good weather. I just had my highest mileage week in over 6 months which seems odd considering it was under 50 miles! This was Friday! Monday: Lift chest/back/abs Tuesday: 5.5 mile hill run Wednesday: 7 mile interval run and lift arms/abs Thursday: 9 mile (7 mile tempo 7:30 pace) Friday: P90X Cardio X and abs Saturday: 22 miles at 8:40 pace Sunday: 4 miles easy with Cooper and MRTT friends 2 days later on Sunday! Like I mentioned on Friday my hamstring was acting up but luckily was better thanks to lots of rolling. Let’s just hope this was it. Mentally I can’t handle any issues during taper! Hoping for continued good weather and running. Monday: Lift legs/back/abs Tuesday: Intervals: 7x800m at 6:30 pace Wednesday: Kickboxing and lift arms/abs Thursday: 6 mi...

Marathon Monday: Ready for Spring

Image
After a sluggish and down right rough week of running I think I turned things around. I'm ready for Week 9 and the much better weather that is here (and even better that is on the way!). Saturday I managed to pull off a 14 miler with a runner friend who pushed me through the first few miles too fast! Hip was slightly achy afterwards which had me near panic mode for a few hours! Too long dealing with that injury that I'm still on edge with every ache. It got better, even took advantage of the weather on Sunday after a long work day and got Cooper out for 4 mile run/walk. Oops nonmatching socks then entire run! This week I'm excited to see what's ahead with temperatures in the 60s! Monday: AM Kickboxing PM P90X Legs/Back/Abs (switching up leg day to Monday to avoid long run day) Tuesday: Intervals 12x400 (6;15 pace) with 1 mile w/u and c/d Wednesday: P90X Chest/Back/Abs and Cardio X Thursday: PM Tempo run (7 total miles) Friday: AM Cardio X PM P90X Shou...

Marathon Monday- The woes of a morning runner

Image
Week 6 Done and winter is brutal! Highs below 0, snow and nasty roads. Still dealing with some nasty sinus junk this week and needing sleep making me realize how tough it is to run after a long day at work! Heck I could barely keep my long run pace on my tempo run and flew on my long run! I just need sun and warmth again. Monday:  AM kickboxing   Didn’t happen!  and PM P90X Shoulders/Chest/Triceps/Abs Tuesday:  Intervals: 1 mile w/u 5x1200 at 6:35 6:45-7 pace 1 mile c/d 8 miles done Wednesday:  P90X Legs/Back/Abs and kickboxing Thursday:  Tempo Run: 1 mile easy 5 miles 7:30 pace 1 mile easy Friday:  P90X Biceps/Back/Abs and Kickboxing Saturday:  Long Run: 16.3 miles 2:13:55 8:13 pace Sunday:  4.25 mile easy run and yoga My workout buddy! Week 7 of marathon training and week 8 P90X, loving it. I can honestly say that this less running is great. Never thought I’d say that but the variations in workouts is great! ...

Marathon Weekly & Winter is Back

Image
Finally back up and able to post after a week of computer issues! I need this to keep track of my training! This also means week 5 has come and gone and despite my best plans the late day runs and winter weather are not working in my favor. The return of winter has meant all indoor running again, yuck! Monday:  P90X Shoulders/Chest/Triceps/Abs Tuesday:  No energy to run so P90X Back/Biceps/Abs instead Wednesday:  Intervals: 9.5 miles with ½ mile repeats Thursday:  Tempo Run: 1 mile easy 5 miles 7:20 pace 1 mile easy Friday:  P90X Legs/Back/Abs and Kickboxing Saturday:  Long Run: 14.5 miles 2:03:00 Sunday:  5 mile easy run and yoga Week 6 means only 10 weeks to go and I’m still hoping this will be my race, my comeback and time to PR! My main goal for this week is to get back to morning workouts (which already didn’t happen this morning) and keep my weekend eating in check. What are your goals this week? Source Monday:  ...

Marathon Monday: Week 4

Image
Week 3 has come and gone and was actually my best week so far despite doing the wrong interval training (oops!). The week was crazy with O’s birthday, work and school. The weather has turned cooler again but still not unbearable and we remain quite snow free! Monday:  P90X Back/Chest and 3 mile easy run with Cooper (45 degrees this afternoon I couldn’t resist!) Tuesday:  Intervals: 10 min easy, 3x1600 at 6:45 pace, 10 min easy (This was tough!) Wednesday:  P90X Legs/Back/Core and 30 min kickboxing Thursday:  Tempo Run: 1 mile easy 7 miles 7:30 pace 1 mile easy Total 10.0 miles (had to finish watching the show I found on Netflix) Friday:  P90X Core Synergistics Saturday: 45 min kickboxing AM and Yoga after work Sunday:  Long Run: 14.25 miles in 2:01:19 (ran 14 and walked .25 as cool down) First run on my new treadmill! Now that the birthday festivities are complete I think my weeks will calm slightly. Week 4 is also my first cutback ...

Marathon Monday: My Week in Training

Image
After a frustrating mid week I think I am back to where I need to be. Some weird foot pain caused me some anxiety and moments of panic but it seems gotten a little better. Still mildly aches with barefoot walking but feels fine running so I’m thinking maybe a mild PF? My calf is super tight so I think it is all related to that. Monday:  P90X Back/Chest/Abs and Spin 30 min Kickboxing Tuesday:  AM- Plyometrics Sleep and PM-Intervals: 10 min easy, 4x1200 at 6:35 6:35-6:45 pace, 10 min easy 6.5 miles total Wednesday:  P90X Legs/Back/Abs and kickboxing Thursday:  Tempo Run : Skipped due to foot pain and 1 hour elliptical instead Friday:  P90X Shoulders/Arms/Abs and easy 3 mile run in 40 degree weather! Saturday:  Long Run: 12.5 miles 1:46:14 Sunday:  Yoga/Abs Remember last week's sunny long run, well what difference being home makes! Week 3 of marathon training is here and the warmer weather is sticking around a few more days. O...
