Tackle the Miles Virtual Race Giveaway & A little inspiration
How did you tackle the miles? Was it on a treadmill or outside in beautiful weather. Did you brave the elements and cold? Did you grab some friends and share the fun? The important part is you did it and each day we reach to do more.
On Super Bowl Sunday I headed out and ran my Tackle the Miles Half but decided not to write about that. For me it was a run, it was cold and I finished. Instead I wanted to share how I helped others Tackle their first miles this week. The goal was a 5K to mark the start of a 3 month challenge which will be repeated at the end for comparison. For us runners we were thrilled with the 20 degree weather and moonlight but as a new runners this can be discouraging.
With much concerns of finishing and talk of the difficulty we started but this is what I love about running. We all set out with our own goals and strive to meet those. 1 mile was done and everyone was still smiling, now the halfway point and the big excitement of knowing they had run more then they had remaining. Now 2 miles and some up hill, talk of this is getting tough, but then encouragement to each other that it was almost the finish. A turn and the end in there and everyone accomplished their 5K! I love this, no it was not my run but it was for them and sharing this joy and accomplishment is what running is all about. This is how I helped others Tackle the Miles. I was even happier to hear many say "they kind of liked running." How did you tackle the miles? or Have you helped others tackle the miles?
Congratulations to everyone that completed the first 13 in 2013 virtual race! I’m looking forward to reading our recaps and seeing your photos!

I tackled the miles by running the course I planned to run a 5K on the following week. It was a blast!
ReplyDeleteI did speed work this morning. 5x800m. It went REALLY well.
ReplyDeleteEven though I didn't get in my full 6 miles yesterday (got 5.8) the run was super hilly and I felt AWESOME throughout, despite the melting snow and subsequent puddles/ice slicks.
ReplyDeleteMy last -great- run was my 10K on Sunday, I set a PR and even though I intentionally held back because of the pregnancy I felt so awesome at the end, and smashed my previous PR by 3:42 even with hills and a last mile that was one big ice slick!
ReplyDeleteThe 5K that I ran for this Virtual event was my last great run! I sadly haven't gotten a chance to run since! :( But I plan on a run tomorrow morning! When I started the treadmill to run my 3.1 miles, my adrenaline was already pumping because I was on a time-limit! I wanted to finish the 5K in under 30 minutes because I had a Zumba class to get to right afterwards! My 3.1 was over in 25:06 and I literally felt like I was flying! Setting my PR for a 5K on a treadmill! I started to fatigue a little bit into the run, but wanting to finish in a good time really helped me to push myself and finish! I felt AMAZING! I felt FAST! It was a glorious run!
ReplyDeleteMy run outside last week was a great one for me:) The weather has been pretty rainy here so to be able to get out without getting wet was pretty amazing!
ReplyDeleteMonday morning outside before the sun came up.
ReplyDeleteMy last run was kindof an interval run - run combined with bleacher runs at the local high school. It's my new fave workout and I plan on doing it again this weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteI ran 10 miles this weekend and it was great! My tackle the miles race was running a 10k on the treadmill.
ReplyDeleteI chased my little one all around the park; it was fun interval training. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI ran 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday and it sucked for part of the time and the other part I felt amazing! Love how runs can always be so different.
ReplyDeleteI ran a 5k on the road by my house. Great weather!
ReplyDeleteMy tackle the miles went fantastic! I would like to hope I have helped other over the years...just in ways of motivation, etc.!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have someone like you around to encourage me to get off the treadmill. I might run outside in the cold if I had a running buddy. Might.
ReplyDeleteMy best run was my run last week -- first one back since my Marathon. Was nice to be back out -- have been having some issues so good to be back!
ReplyDeleteMy best run was yesterday on the TM. I had a decent pace and felt great after the run!
ReplyDeleteI had one of the best runs yesterday, outside in the cold. I was with it all the way and it felt great!
ReplyDeleteI ran my first 9 miles last Sunday. I felt awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy last great run was (unfortunately, due to injury) a while ago. I ran a New Year Resolution 5k late December 2012 and PR'd with a feeling of flying the whole way through the race. I was so proud of myself and happy about ending 2012 with that race and continue into 2013 and make it an even better year!
