Marathon Weekly: Too Close for Comfort

Coffee & macarons
This week I was starting to think that I have 11 weeks until race day and need to rethink my goals as training is not coming together. Not what I wanted since I had hoped for this to be a great race. I know I still have time but with speedwork lacking still and 13.1 being my longest run this training I am wondering what will happen. I love being outside in summer so I can’t stand the idea of staying inside to cross train on the elliptical or bike and being home with a 3 year biking outside is tough plus I hate to throw her in childcare at the gym every day so we run together. I am listening and okay with not running if I hurt and pushing if I can, happy to say I can make it about 2 miles or speedy running without pain, then time to go easy.

Week 4 was much different than I have done lately: low mileage, relaxing, family fun time and even a race with a unexpected finish (more tomorrow) and guess what? I swam this week!
Monday: Short stress relief run with Morgan and core before taking my boards J
Tuesday: I slept in, it rained so no walking to gymnastics. Got in strength and core.
Wednesday: Walked 4 miles at zoo then ran 2.5 miles each way to/from dentist (yes I am that girl, don’t worry I brought a dry shirt to put on)
Thursday: Strength with trainer (increased my front squat weight) and easy run to/from gym (3 miles total)
Friday: Berry picking and no spin, ran 2 miles each way to/from store
Saturday: 3.7 mile race with mom’s run group and then kid’s race with O. Busy day including her first fireworks at night! Strength in afternoon
Sunday: 3.1 mile run with Morgan, 5.5 mile run/walk with Matt and O. I swam 20 min! J
Pre-Race with MRTT

Week 5 is continuing to be an easy week. I have been cleared for 1 long run and keeping the others short and easy. I have another appointment with my sports doc on Tuesday and hope to run a 5K on Wednesday. This week the crazy heat is on the way, talk of 100F in the near future, ugh! I love summer and heat but not that much.
Monday: Not sure, a walk and core. Considering zumba or another swim
Tuesday: Morning spin (I will go this week), strength with trainer. Evening run coaching
Wednesday: 5K race
Thursday: Strength and evening run with MRTT
Friday: Spin class run to/from gym
Saturday: Long run and strength

Sunday: Bike and swim

How was your week? Any training issues or are things going great?

  1. Finding the time for all workouts is really tough during marathon training. Keep positive. Would looking for a training plan that fits your schedule better be helpful?

    1. Yes, this can be tough but I actually write my own plans and make things flexible. My problem right now is rehabbing an injury while trying to train and needing to limit my running.

  2. Cleared for a long run? That's great! My training is actually going great. I haven't been able to say that in way too long.

  4. Training issues for me are just finding time. I work 30 hours a week and commute an hour each way. Right now, I'm fitting it in, but every week I bump the mileage up between 1-3 miles and will eventually start grad school in September. Running 35+ miles a week is going to be crazy!!!

    1. The key for me when I was working and in grad school was scheduling workouts (and getting up early). You can do it!

  10. For me finding time during the week is the hardest. I am busy juggling a crazy work schedule along with my two toddlers. my plan this week is to run a 12 mile long run on Saturday and hopefully 8 miles during the week in divided days.
