Marathon Monday: Week 12

Happy Marathon Monday! It truly is marathon Monday as the 117th running of the Boston Marathon begins in just minutes. The past 2 years I've had two very different experiences running the Patriot's Day race: 2011 complete with PR and 2012 filled with pre-race injury & 90F on race day.

Week 12 means the final peak week of training then taper, yikes. My glute (probably piriformis) is better but still sore after my hilly 10 Mile Race. Other then that this week has been bad, snow, rain, sleet and ice. Yep, it is mid April and we are in the midst of winter. We have gotten snow the past 6 days and there is no end in sight. Everyone, including the dog, is moody and over winter.

Monday: Yoga & 1:05 hour elliptical
Tuesday: Morning Spin, weights with trainer & Easy evening Run (coaching)
Wednesday: Morning Run (new hilly route) windy day: 12.5 miles
Thursday: Morning 1 hour Bike Trainer & Afternoon run 4 miles/weights
Friday: Morning Spin & Yoga with O (her request)
Saturday: 10 Mile Race (recap to come) + 2.5 miles & Afternoon Weights
Sunday: Sluggish Treadmill run 11.2 miles + core

Run views on Tuesday- open trails and wildlife

The snow that came Wednesday, Thursday, Friday...(and is still here)

And what's ahead for Week 13 of marathon training? More being smart and staying injury free and this. More mileage, minimal speed since the weather sucks!

Goal: Continue to listen to my body, foam roll, ice and actually get to yoga this week or do DVD a few times. Last 22 mile run this weekend, hoping to run middle 18 at race pace or faster.

Monday: Yoga & 8-10 mile hill repeats
Tuesday: Morning Spin, weights with trainer & Easy evening Run (coaching)
Wednesday: Morning Run (Tempo or Intervals run) during preschool
Thursday: Morning Spin & Afternoon run 3-4 miles/weights
Friday: Morning Spin & Yoga
Saturday: 20-22 mile run
Sunday: Recovery Run 3-4 miles

How was your week? Remember the Huma Gel I mentioned last week, well come back tomorrow for a chance to win your own!

  3. Good job! I always say I'm going to do a recovery run the next day, but I can't manage to get out there. That's a goal of mine moving forward.

    1. It really helps to get my legs loose after a long run.

  4. Sounds like another good week for you! Boo still having snow though. We had a very short winter here and I'm ok with it. More because I'm on crutches and the slightly warmer spring weather makes me able to not have to wear pants all the time which are hard with the boot haha :)

  7. Great week! No more snow here. Finally! The weather is warm but plagued with tornado's and massive amounts of rain. I guess we can't have everything.

I noticed that you don't always do Yoga with running. How do you stretch after running?

    1. I usually do yoga separate from running and after running just do a little stretching (or try if I remember)
